The report released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) that 3057 lives were lost in road accidents last year is mind blogging and sends chill down the spine.
The statistics show how Kenyans are losing their lives as a result of drivers who do not observe traffic rules.
Despite the ministry of transport coming up with stringent measures to curb road accidents, still more needs to be done.
The accidents are majorly as a result of reckless drivers trying to overtake without taking note of an oncoming vehicle, the result, grisly road accidents which are primary from head on collision.
My stay in Nairobi has made me learn that no day can elapse without seeing wreckage of a vehicle being towed by breakdown services.

There are also rogue drivers who flout traffic rules and only learnt how to drive from their uncle or friend.
Over speeding, overloading and driving vehicles which are not roadworthy are other causes of road accidents and are rampant in rural areas where there are no traffic police.
I also condemn passengers who do not put on safety belts thus putting themselves at risk in case of an accident.
Therefore punitive measures should be meted on those who flout traffic rules. Driving under the influence of alcohol should not go unpunished.
