Nairobi, Kenya: The owner of a building that collapsed and killed seven people in Kaloleni, Nairobi has been arrested.

Police said they are holding Mr David Kamonjo pending his arraignment for causing deaths, injuries and destruction.

CID officers holding and questioning Kamonjo said they intend to charge him on January 5.

The building collapsed on December 17 as almost 20 people were asleep. 12 people were rescued from the rubbles of the building that was under construction.

Even though it was under construction, the first, second and third floors had been occupied.

Each floor had five single rooms and had been occupied. Most of the occupants were students of Technical University and some had left for the Christmas holidays.

On Wednesday, Makadara CID boss Zack Nanguli said they are interrogating Kamonjo.

"City Hall is also helping us in knowing if the building had been approved and if due process was followed before he is charged," said Nanguli.

The County Government says it is not to blame for collapse of the building.
