Migori, Kenya: Security agencies and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officials are now hunting for a contractor over the drowning of five family members in Migori County after their vehicle plunged into a quarry on Christmas Eve.
The Migori accident was among grisly accidents experienced in different parts of the country this Christmas, which left 12 people dead.
NTSA Road Safety Director Mathew Munyao said the contractor will be arrested and charged with negligence after he failed to rehabilitate a crater after excavating materials for road construction.
The transport Authority and security agencies, according to the official, had instituted measures to ensure the contractor faces the law as his act was contrary to Environmental Impact Assessment study on measures to be taken on completion of a project.
Migori Governor Okoth Obado has pledged to dispatch a team of public works experts to ensure the abandoned quarry is well secured to avoid such incidences in the future.
