Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has offered to help Mukami Kimathi, freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi's widow who is unwell.
A day before, Mukami had asked Kenyans of goodwill to contribute and help her offset an Sh1 million hospital bill.
In a Tweet on Sunday, January 15 morning, Gachagua tasked Embakasi Central MP Benjamin Gathiru to delve into Mukami's issue.
"I am saddened that Mukami, the wife of our hero, Field Marshal Dedan Kimathi Wachiuri, has been ill and admitted at a Hospital in Nairobi," Gachagua's tweet reads in part.
"In this regard, I have tasked Embakasi Central MP Hon. Benjamin Gathiru to look into her situation urgently,"
According to the Deputy President, Mukami's matter was brought to his attention on Saturday, December 14.
Gachagua had accompanied President William Ruto on a two-day tour of the Nyanza region which started on Friday.
The DP has also pledged to visit Mukami and his family once he returns from Bomet later this evening.
The President, his Deputy, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Bomet Governor Hilary Barchok are attending an interdenominational Church Service at the Bomet Green Stadium this morning.
"On my return to Nairobi later today, I will make time to visit our mother to check on her progress and assess possible interventions to make her life more comfortable. I wish her quick recovery and God's blessings," Gachagua adds.
Mukami, 101, was admitted to a city hospital in Nairobi on January 5, 2023, with pneumonia symptoms.
She was treated and was to be discharged on January 12.
The family said Mukami has not been allowed to leave the facility until her bill is cleared.
As of Thursday, January 12, the bill stood at Sh1,045,883 according to hospital records seen by The Standard at the time.
