Kenya: More than 60 lecturers and non-teaching staff at the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Nyeri Campus yesterday held a peaceful demonstration protesting the failure by the management to implement a 12 per cent increase in their salary.

They accused KMTC board of being non-committal to honouring a court directive that awarded them Sh770 million following a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between them and the institution.

Their representative, Johnson Nderu said they had exhausted all avenues in persuading the management to pay salaries dating back to June 2012. "Late last year, the Industrial Court at Milimani gave KMTC one month to pay Sh770 million to workers in all the 42 campuses," he said.

He said workers had, through the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers have taken up the matter with Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia and consultations are ongoing. They they will not resume work until their dues are paid.

The Principal, Grace Mbuthia, denied that the administration had not communicated with the students.
