Once upon a time, Leopard decided to build a new home. Lazy Hare decided to take advantage and helped build the house while Leopard gathered building materials. When the house was completed, Hare had built half of it.
Hare moved into the side he had built while Leopard also moved into his side. Immediately, problems erupted. They quarrelled endlessly until Hare hatched a plot to evict Leopard.
Each night, Hare asked his wife to pinch their children so they would cry loudly. When they cried, he bellowed: "Why are the children crying?"
His wife answered: "They are crying for Elephant’s liver."
"Tell them to keep quiet. Getting an Elephant’s liver is no problem for me. Tomorrow I will kill one," Hare shouted loudly so Leopard could hear.
Leopard was terrified and thought Hare was a very dangerous animal. Days later, a fresh quarrel exploded. Hare threatened to kill Leopard and give his liver to his children. Leopard was terrified.
"We must move away immediately otherwise Hare will kill us," Leopard told his wife.
Early the next day before Hare’s family woke up, the Leopards moved out. They met Baboon who asked: "Why are you hurrying and sweating early in the morning?"
Leopard replied: "We are running away from Hare who plans to kill us and feed our livers to his children. He has kicked us out of the house I built."
"Oh! That’s one of his tricks. Let’s go back to your house. But we must tie our tails together."
So Leopard and Baboon approached the house with their tails tied together. On seeing them, Hare rebuked them while his wife pinched the children. When he asked loudly why they were crying, Mrs Hare said they were crying for Leopard’s liver.
"I planned with Baboon that he would bring Leopard here and so he has. You are going to get Leopard’s liver right away, my children," Hare shouted.
A scared Leopard tried to run away. But since his tail was tied to Baboon’s, ran in opposite directions and their tails were badly bruised as a result.
With Leopard out of the way, Hare took over the whole house.
