More businesses and institutions in Kenya are embracing the use of alternative power supply.
This is due to alleged insufficient power supply and frequent power outages.
Dominic Musyoka, a mechanical engineer at KJ Machinery in Kenya says the number of people, businesses and institutions purchasing standby generators has increased in the last few years.
However, he argues that the main challenge in running the business is the fluctuation of the dollar and shilling rates.
“The dollar exchange rate has affected us until recently when it dropped. As major importers of these machines, any slight change in the currency affects our pricing,” Musyoka says.
