NAIROBI; KENYA: Nairobi Swimming Association (Nasa) organised their first competition of the year with a two days triple ‘A’ Championships that started at Moi International Sports Center Aquatic Stadium on Saturday.
Khatundi Nasimiyu of Braeside School dominated her age category where she won most races she participated in.
The swimmer won her first event of the day after she won girls’ 12-13 200m individual medley in two minutes 53.83. Emma Ogao of Braeburn was placed second after she splashed through the 50m long pool in 3:06.43 followed by Navya Shah of International School of Kenya who clocked 3:11.18.
Nasimiyu achieved her second victory of the day after she won girls’ 12-13 100m freestyle in 1:06.67. Simran Billing also of Braeburn finished in silver position with a time of 1:11.70 while Daniella Maina of Bubbles Swim Club came third in 1:13.70.
Mixed results
Martha Opiyo of Braeside was in limelight after she won girls’ 14-15 100m freestyle in 1:05.55 to clinch gold in the event where Alexa Ngini of Braeside finished second (1:08.46) and Alesa Ilako of Otters third in 1:08.58.
Opiyo had her second gold of the event after she lead the pack in girls’ 14-15 100m butterfly touching the walls in 1:12.13. Silver medal went to Anika Billing of Braeburn who was timed 1:21.90.
Francis Agolla of Makini School was outstanding in boys’ 10-11 100m butterfly after he won the event in 1:24.70. Agolla’s final time was much slower than his seed time of 1:22.65. Fadhil Saleh of Braeburn claimed silver in 1:29.52 while Edward Roest of Kenton College bagged bronze in 1:33.85.
Marco-Aurel Pellegrini of Braeside registered 1:15.13 to claim gold in boys’ 12-13 100m butterfly.
Thomas Tawk placed Peponi School on the roll call of achievers after he clinched boys’ 14-15 100m butterfly in 1:25.92 in the event where he won the only competitor to swim to the end.
Atuhaire Ambala of Strathmore School claimed his first gold on the opening day of the Championships after he won boys’ 10-11 200m individual medley in 3:09.30.
He was followed by Fadhil Saleh of Braeburn who clocked 3:14.17 while Kabir Bedi of Peponi came third in 3:14.78.during the month forced organizers to reschedule the tournament to this weekend.
