Michael Otieno Obuya is the new Mr Kenya champion.
Obuya won the title at the Kenya Body Building Federation (KBBF) contest held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi at the weekend.
Sheettal Tafal emerged champion in the Miss Kenya figure contest while reigning Miss Nairobi, Farah Ishmail was declared Miss Kenya winner in the bikini category.
Heavyweight champion Obuya was given a run for his money by William Cassidy who finished second. Mr Nairobi reigning champion Rashid Issa (light heavy) ended the male contest in third place while Hassan Juma (welter) was fourth.
“Obuya now replaces Meshack Ochieng’ who did not turn up to defend his title. Ochieng’ is currently based in the US where he is taking part in similar body building contests,” said KBBF chairman Chris Omedo during the championships.

Tafal was closely followed by Evelyn Okinyi in the women’s figure contest. Beatrice Ochieng’ was third while Carol Yida finished fourth.
Ishmail’s closest competitor was Azita Dsatan who finished second in the bikini category followed by Judy Mwangi and Mary Njoroge respectively. The bikini and figure category contests saw each of the winners walk away with Sh30,000, second place finishers got Sh10,000 while those who finished third got Sh5,000. This was the same amount awarded to other seven male categories contested at the venue.
The overall winner (Obuya) pocketed Sh100,000, second placed Cassidy went home Sh50,000 richer while third placed Issa was awarded Sh30,000. The first overall six winners also got supplements and certificates.
Omedo said: “This is the first ever Mr and Miss Kenya championship we are holding since we took over office last year. I am happy to have hosted 520 athletes from our 27 branches. These determined young men and women is enough evidence of our success story that the federation is growing and expanding.”
