Kenyan swimmers in the 12th Cana Zone Three and Four Swimming Championships in Uganda took their medal tally to 48 after the end of second day on Friday evening.
Contesting at the Kampala Parents’ Schools 50m swimming pool, Kenyan troopes collected 31 more medals in day two. In day one, Kenya won 17 medals.
As the championships entered its third day yesterday, Kenya had 17 gold, 21 silver and 10 bronze and were leading ten nations taking part.
Notably, Kenya’s Nobby Obuya who swims for Mombasa’s Bandari Swim Club coached by Fakry Mansoor was the hero of the day after he shattered two national records as he went ahead to win more gold medals.

In the boys 12/13 years 100m backstroke, Obuya who is a student at Nyali Primary, shattered a 2002 national record of 1.11.53 set by David Dunford to register a new time of 1.09.50.
Obuya went ahead to smash Kenya’s 50m boys 12/13 years backstroke record of 31.64 of 2007 set by Kimani Maina to become the new record holder with a time of 31.30.
Nairobi’s Daniella Awori broke the girls 16 and over 200m freestyle record of 2.16.03 set by Anita Field in 2012 to set a new time of 2.13.01.

Another Kenyan record was felled by Natasha Oduor-Owino of Nairobi in girls 16 years and over 50m backstroke after she rubbed out the previous record of 38.70 set by Sylvia Brunlehner in 2010 and set a new record of 35.86.
Kenya coach Fakry Mansoor said he was impressed with the performance and promised to win more medals before the championships ends tomorrow.
“Our biggest challenger is South Africa but we are determined to emerge overall champions and retain the title we won last year in Lusaka, where Kenya brought home 80 medals.
