The Kenya National Highway Authority is in a spot for renaming two rivers along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway without following due process.
The authority has renamed River Karati as Delamere and Malewa as Gilgil much to the chagrin of residents and conservationists.
The move has elicited anger with area leaders terming the act illegal. Enock Kiminta, the chair of Lake Naivasha Water Resource Users Association, said they were shocked to see new signage near the two rivers after they were renamed by the roads authority.
“KENHA has decided to rename these two rivers whose names have historical meanings. We will be engaging them to find the motive behind it,” he said.
