Laikipia County government has joined hands with the national government in a bid to upgrade two towns in Laikipia West constituency.

The partnership between the two levels of governments will see Sipili and Kinamba Townships upgraded to modern towns.

The national government is up the task of tarmacking roads with the local government expected to plan the towns, install street lightings and ensure that there is sufficient supply of clean water.

The project is estimated at Sh200million.

Speaking while on an inspection tour of projects in the two towns, Governor Nderitu Muriithi noted that the plan underlines the need to have an organized and better managed people-friendly urban centres.

“We want to make the two towns business hubs in the region. That is why we have partnered with the national government to uograde them. The project will be complete in the next three months,” he said.

He noted that upgrading the towns will spur business growth in the selected centres thereby helping in jobs creation.

Muriithi noted that his administration had set aside money meant to install street lighting and water supply in the towns noting that installation was set to commence come February.

The governor at the same time noted that the county government was to construct a theatre at Ndindika hospital in Kinamba and add more doctors to boost health services.

On his part, area MP Patrick Marirucalled on residents not to question which level of government was partaking development projects saying they were all meant to better services.

His sentiments were echoed by Githiga ward MCA Peter Thomi and his counterpart from Ol Moran, George Karuiru.

Laikipia Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Benedict Munywoki urged on residents to take advantage of the dprojects and boost their businesses.

He at the same time assured security in the banditry hotbed areas noting that officers were on high alert.
