Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has announced plans to form his own party as part of his preparations to defend his seat in 2027.

Omondi, who is among ODM MPs considered rebels by the party, is struggling to regain his position in the party and claims the party has shown him disrespect.

Already, ODM leader Raila Odinga has endorsed nominated MP John Mbadi to wrestle the seat from Omondi for allegedly betraying the party.

Speaking at Uterere Beach in his constituency, Omondi said his journey to form a new political party will begin soon after a consultative meeting with all ODM delegates in his constituency.

"I am going to form a political party to defend my seat if ODM leadership continues to show a lack of interest in me," Omondi said.

Omondi revealed that he will use the party to defend his seat

He said the consultative meeting will enable him to make a decision that is acceptable to his constituents.

"A number of my constituents think that I form a political party. I am going to have a consultative meeting with all ODM delegates who are the representatives of my constituents. In that discussion, they are going to give me the way forward on the political path to follow and how to follow it," Omondi said.

The formation of the new party will enhance the proliferation of new political parties in the Nyanza region. The political party will add to other political parties in the regions such as former Ndhiwa MP Augustino Neto's UGM and Ugenya MP David Ochieng's MDG.
