Kirinyaga Woman Rep Njeri Maina now says she has forgiven Governor Anne Waiguru.
Speaking today in Kirinyaga before President William Ruto, Maina said although Waiguru who doubles up as the Council of Governors chairperson had allegedly incited youth to attack her, she had overcome her anger and forgiven the governor.
Ruto is in Kirinyaga County for a development tour when he commissioned the Ndia link roads.
"Muheshimiwa rais when you were away, nataka ujue ya kwamba kuna watu walikuwa wananipangia njama. Lakini sababu mimi si mtu wa kuweka hasira, leo hii natangaza ya kwamba gavana Waiguru nimekusamehe. Hata wale vijana ulituma wanipige mawe nawaona hapa na ninawambia pia hao nimewasemehe," said Maina.
This loosely translates (Your excellency while you were away, there were some people who were plotting to hurt me. But because I don't carry vengeance, I want to announce here today that Governor Waiguru I have forgiven you. Even the youth you incited to stone me, I see them here but I have forgiven them too).
The woman rep said her wish is for the Kirinyaga people to engage in peaceful politics that will foster development rather than animosity.
She said she was grateful to President Ruto and Deputy Rigathi Gachagua that after they had a candid conversation at State House Nairobi, she had let go her anger towards Governor Waiguru.
Although Waiguru in her remarks ignored the matter, Maina said the County Commissioner and the DCIO had assured her that appropriate action would be taken against the perpetrators.
In the month of September this year, Waiguru issued a seven-day notice to the woman rep to withdraw alleged defamatory statements against her.
Waiguru in her demand letter said the woman rep had defamed her in a Facebook post.
"On August 24, 2023, you published by posting on your Facebook page; Governor Anne Waiguru, why do you want to kill me? I know you've sent your goons Sh30,000 each to go to hiding through your agent called kings...," stated Waiguru.
Waiguru's lawyers claimed the post which was directed at their client had since caused damage to her reputation.
"Our Client is the Governor of Kirinyaga County and the Chairperson of the Council of Governors. She is held in high esteem by the public at large. Your recklessness has caused and continues to inflict damage to her image and reputation," the letter read in part.
Governor Waiguru is now demanding an apology from the Kirinyaga Woman Rep, including having the 'defamatory statements' retracted.
