The ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition and the opposition Azimio la Umoja coalition have agreed to hold talks.

In a joint statement, the two coalitions said that they will each have five members for the talks that will be facilitated by former Nigeria President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The talks are aimed at solving issues facing the country.

The statement was signed by National Assembly's Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa and Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi.

The committee will have four members from outside parliament two from each side of the political divide.

It will also have the Minority and Majority leaders as well as four Members of Parliament; with each coalition nominating two members.

They will discuss the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), implementation of the two-thirds gender rule and entrenchment of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

They will also discuss the establishment and entrenchment of the office of the leader of the opposition and the embedment of the office of Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) which is currently held by Musalia Mudavadi.

The talks will not focus on the Finance Act since it has been challenged in court. The Court of Appeal on Friday lifted orders that had suspended its implementation.

Bi-Partisan talks between the two coalitions collapsed after Raila Odinga's Azimio team withdrew after President William Ruto failed to heed their demands.

Since then, the Kenya Kwanza coalition has failed in attempts to have the talks resume.
