The Registrar of Political Parties (RPP) Ann Nderitu (pictured) has said she stands by her decision to confirm the expulsion of David Murathe and Jeremiah Kioni as members of Jubilee Party.
Speaking during an interview on Spice FM on Friday, May 26, Nderitu said that the two were actively involved in the disciplinary meetings and were aware that they were being served.
According to her, the disciplinary committee followed the right procedures to remove them and as a regulator, her office had to obey the party's ruling.
"The people who are aggrieved by this matter have been before the discipline committee. They were served with the ruling by the party and all the meetings were documented. The committee followed all constitutional and Political Parties Act procedures," said Nderitu.
"The documents were brought to us and we confirmed they were served. We then looked at every procedure to confirm if they followed the law and because they are not our members, our role was to regulate if the due process was followed. The decision was made by the party," she said.
Nderitu further stated that the decision to remove any member from the party lies within the party and as a registrar, what one can do is confirm if the law was followed during the expulsion.
On Tuesday, May 23, the RPP issued a letter confirming that Kioni and Murathe are officially expelled from Jubilee Party.
In the letter, dated May 19, 2023, and addressed to the party Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kuttuny, the registrar stated that the new Jubilee Party leadership was led by EALA MP Kanini Kega.
There were several claims by political leaders that the letter was backdated. However, Nderitu says that is sheer propaganda.
"Backdating is if there was another document that was available then you cancel that and give out another one. We have not given any other letter. I am lost when I hear them say the letter was backdated," she said.
Despite the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties, the Kioni faction has moved the matter to the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal for further hearing which is yet to be heard.
