The list of nominees to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission selection panel is taking shape.

The Political Parties Liaison Committee has nominated chairman James Misati of Progressive Party of Kenya. The committee consists of more than 80 political parties.

The Law Society of Kenya has nominated Benson Ngugi Njeri, an advocate from Igeria and Ngugi advocates, while the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya has picked Rev Nelson Makanda, the General Secretary of the Evangelical Society of Kenya, and Fatuma Saman of the National Muslim Leaders Forum.

The Public Service Commission will submit one name to the panel while the Parliamentary Service Commission will nominate two candidates. However, the two commissions are yet to submit names of their nominees.

However, Azimio House leadership has vowed not to participate in the selection of IEBC commissioners.

Azimio leader Raila Odinga has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of seeking to unilaterally pick the electoral agency commissioners.

"We will not allow Ruto and his sycophants to single-handedly appoint IEBC commissioners," he said.

Raila has expressed concern over the allocation of two slots to the Parliamentary Service Commission and one slot to the Public Service Commission, stating that this gives the president an unfair advantage due to PSC's position in the Executive.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichungw'a has accused Azimio of playing politics with composition of the IEBC selection panel.

On Thursday last week, the Parliamentary Service Commission called for application for the two positions with the deadline elapsing today at 5pm.

In less than 72 hours, applicants are required to apply for the chairperson or members of the IEBC by completing the job application form on Parliament website. The candidates must attach copies of their academic and professional certificates, testimonials, and the self-declaration form from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.

All applications should be submitted online in PDF format by email to the Clerk of the Senate/Secretary, Parliamentary Service Commission.
