Azimio cries foul in Mombasa, Kakamega governor election

The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition has pointed accusatory fingers at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) over the postponement of the Kakamega and Mombasa governor races.

The coalition's Secretary General Junet Mohammed on Monday evening claimed IEBC's decision to suspend polls in the two counties, largely considered Azimio's strongholds was no coincidence.

"Is this a coincidence? We believe it is deliberate, and a function of negligence," Junet said in a televised address.

Azimio now wants IEBC commissioners probed and audited, questioning why only elections in the two counties were postponed.

The coalition has also urged its supporters in the affected counties to come out in large numbers tomorrow, Tuesday, August 9, and vote for the other positions.

"We urge our supporters to turn out in big numbers. What is suspended is only gubernatorial elections, not presidential or senatorial," Junet said.

The commission on Monday suspended Mombasa and Kakamega governor elections as well as Kacheliba and Pokot South parliamentary polls to a later date, citing errors on ballot papers.
