ODM MPs have given Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich (pictured) 72 hours to reconsider the 16 per cent tax on all petroleum products or face impeachment.
Led by Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch, the MPs said Kenyans were already overburdened by taxes and the new tax would push up the price of basic commodities and transport.
The 16 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel was effected on September 1 and has been met with uproar.
Oluoch also accused Rotich of going against Parliament. Suna East MP Junet Mohammed had last week put an amendment to the Finance Bill, 2013, suspending tax on fuels by two years.

Uriri MP Mark Nyamita told President Uhuru Kenyatta the tax would also affect manufacturing which is a big pillar of his Big Four Agenda.
He asked the President to swiftly stop Rotich from “this nonsense of disregarding what Parliament has passed.”
He said Rotich could not have done it without Uhuru’s blessings.
