Kisii County has lined up some of the heroes and heroines who have made the country proud, as it readies to host this year's Mashujaa Day at the Gusii stadium.
The county administration has in the past one week placed billboards, posters and banners on key roads and streets in Kisii town. One announcing Helen Obiri's achievements in athletics has been placed on the road to Gusii stadium from the town.
Ms Obiri is a middle-distance runner and the current 5,000 metres champion after winning gold in the 2017 World Championship in London.
She successfully defended the title at the 2019 World Championship in Doha, setting a new record. Obiri also won silver medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics.
She won the 3,000 metres race at the 2012 World Indoor Championship in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds the Kenyan national record for the 5,000 metres event.

The County has also recognised former Kitutu East MP Abuya Abuya. He was a firebrand legislator; among those branded the seven bearded sisters by former Attorney General Charles Njonjo.
Lawrence Sagini, Kenya's first Minister for Education and the only politician from Kisii to be included in the independence Cabinet, also appears in the outdoor adverts.
Pioneer Lawyer James Nyamweya has not been left out. He was Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, assistant Minister in Office of the President, Minister of State in charge of External Affairs and Minister of State in charge of Provincial Administration.
The picture of former Foreign minister Zachary Onyonka also appears. He served in Education, Economic Planning and Technical Training ministries.
Former Harambee Stars striker Henry Motego rekindles memories in the minds of Kenyan football fans. He made a name in the country's soccer scene and now works in Kisii County's Department of Culture and Sports.
