Homa Bay: A teacher committed suicide last Friday in Rachuonyo North sub-county, with claims surfacing that he was frustrated for not being paid his September salary.

Samuel Olang’o, 59, a teacher at Ngolo Primary School, was found dangling on the roof of his daughter-in-law’s kitchen at Kakwaro village.

Neighbours said he had bought goods on credit but failed to pay due to delay by the Teachers Service Commission to remit his September pay.

Area Chief Abel Olang’ said the deceased had not left any suicide note but had been complaining about being unable to pay his creditors.

“The deceased had complained of huge debts he had incurred due to the delayed salary, raising suspicion that that was the cause of committing suicide,” said Olang’.

He said the teacher had also separated with his wife eight months ago. “They had domestic wrangles but we cannot say that is the cause of his death because they separated almost a year ago,” he added.

Rachuonyo North OCPD Joseph Kisombe expressed concern over the numerous cases of suicide in the area and urged locals to embrace guidance and counselling whenever they are faced with challenges.

Kisombe added said they had launched investigations into the incident.
