Kenya: Conflict has risen between Samburu and Marsabit counties over revenues collection and benefit from Ilaut livestock market a town that is at the border of the two counties.

Leaders from the two communities argue that revenue collection from the market has long been misappropriated as there is no proper demarcation on which county the market lies.

Marsabit community believe the livestock market built at Ilaut is on their side while the Samburu community also claim the same.

The community leaders from the same sides halted further collection of revenue collection and agreed on two weeks ultimatum for government for border adjudication evidenced by leaders.

Members of the county assembly from both sides agreed on the matter and the communities agreed to wait for the solution to be solved once and for all.

"The dispute between the two communities is not only an issue of revenue collection but there are also resources that the facilities like dispensary that the two communities are conflicting about due to bordering between the two communities but will be solved once and for all” said Ndoto member of county assembly from Samburu who is also chairman of land and physical planning.

According to Nguronit member of county assembly Arkole Nasot in Marsabit: "The livestock market is built in Marsabit and the community from this region should benefit from the revenue collection I also accept revenue collection to be halted for two weeks until the area be adjudicated.

Kinanan Tuimaga told the standard that Ilaut livestock market is in Samburu.

"We personally constructed the market and it has been bring revenue to our people but the other community have encroached into our revenue collection we urgently ask the government to meet and boarder the region to avoid more troubles"

Samburu minister for lands Grace Seneiya Lempei halted further revenue collection and urged foreign investors venturing the region to involve both the communities.
