Dating women from Homa Bay may soon be a preserve of men of means.
Suba South MP Caroli Omondi says women from the county should henceforth only be sent air tickets and not bus fare by their lovers. This follows the introduction of direct flights by Renegade Air Limited to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay Town Constituency.
Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen presided over the launch of the flights. Also present during the ceremony were Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, MPs Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay Town), Lilian Gogo (Rangwe) and Omondi.
Omondi said the flights will boost the image of Homa Bay.
"Operation of this plane will improve the image of our county. Even our lifestyle must now change. For that matter, our ladies with boyfriends in Nairobi must now be sent money for air tickets instead of the bus fare they used to send," Omondi said.
A crowd at the airstrip cheered the pilots and cabin crew when they were introduced.
Omondi said the introduction of the flights offers residents many opportunities which they should seize.
Kaluma said the airstrip will enhance social interaction among Homa Bay residents and people from other parts of the country.
"You have seen the kind of ladies who work as a cabin crew in airplanes. This project will enhance interaction between our people and residents of other counties," Kaluma said.
He argued that the aeroplane will open up the South Nyanza region for development.
"This plane will serve residents of Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira counties and open the counties for various economic activities," Kaluma said.
According to Wanga, revival of Kabunde Airstrip will boost tourism in the county.
The governor argued that Homa Bay County has many tourist attractions such as Ruma National Park, Lake Simbi Nyaima, historic Rusinga Island among others which will attract tourists.
