The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) X account was briefly hacked on Sunday, February 9, by cryptocurrency scammers.

One of the messages posted on the account urged local media to support the launch of a blockchain project, while another promoted the distribution of tokens in exchange for likes and retweets.

DCI later regained control of the account and issued a statement clarifying that the earlier messages were unauthorized and should be disregarded as fake.

"For some moment this evening, we experienced a cyber-attack on the DCI digital platforms (X and Facebook), but have since gained control."

This incident comes a week after the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) confirmed that its X account had also been hacked. The account was taken over by cryptocurrency scammers, who changed the handle to "DeepSeek AI."

“KBCChannel 1's X account was compromised, and we are actively working to restore full access. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and advise caution when engaging with recent posts from the account.”
