Veteran TV journalist Rita Tinina's requiem mass was held on Monday morning at Holy at Holy Family Basilica, Nairobi.
As early as 6.00 am on Monday, March 25, friends and families had gathered waiting to pay their final tribute.
Rita died on March 17 at her house in Kileleshwa.
Before her death, she worked as an output producer on broadcast platforms at the Nation Media Group.
Previously, she worked at Standard Group from 2012 as a TV senior reporter at KTN until October 2023.
Standard Group Deputy Broadcast Editor TV Ken Mijungu has remembered Rita for her journalistic prowess saying she has left a gap in the media fraternity.
" Rita Tinina's journalistic prowess transcends headlines, challenges norms, and sparks conversations. She has left a legacy that defies mere words. She was more than ink on paper; she was the voice of the voiceless and the seeker of hidden stories," said Mijungu.
She will be remembered for her in-depth coverage of the trial of six Kenyans at the International Criminal Court at The Hague for their alleged roles in the 2007-08 post-election violence that claimed more than 1,133 lives and displaced more than 650,000 people among other remarkable reporting.
Her lifetime partner Robert Nagila said; "Your beauty, hearty laughter, and warm heart are the things that drew me to you. Your passing has left a void that cannot be filled but I'm comforted by the fact that the memories of times spent will live on."
The mass brought together dignitaries including; Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, Safina party leader Jimmy Wanjigi, Digital Strategist Denis Itumbi, Westland Member of Parliament Fred Gumo among other journalists and friends.
A postmortem examination conducted on her revealed that she died of severe pneumonia.
Rita leaves behind an eight-year-old daughter.
She will be buried at her family home at Noosupeni Farm Olokirikirai, Narok County on Wednesday, March 27.
