Police in Mombasa have arrested five suspected robbers captured in a video recording while displaying stolen goods that included phones and clothes.
On Wednesday, December 6, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) identified the five suspects as Vincent Ochieng, Shadrack Ochieng, Felix Otieno, Salim Ali, and Shafi Yusuf, who were captured in the now viral video bragging about the loot while displaying part of the stolen items in their possession.
"Upon search, a navy blue jacket that had been captured in the video recording, three iPhones, a Samsung phone, a Memojo phone, and a Bluetooth headphone, among other items, were recovered from them," DCI said.
The gang is also suspected to be behind a spate of robberies in the coastal town and has been operating within the Sargoi area.
In the one-minute, 21-second video, the five suspects took turns warning their "next victims" while sarcastically telling Kenyans to carry good-quality phones at the forthcoming gospel singer Christina Shusho's concert.
Calls for their arrest dominated social media platforms, while others thought that the gang was 'unserious' and meant no harm.
