President William Ruto on Wednesday, October 25 visited Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi in preparation for the upcoming State visit by Britain's King Charles III and Queen Carmilla.
Ruto was accompanied by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, Chief of Defence Forces Lt-Gen Francis Ogolla, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, and other leaders.
The royal couple will visit Kenya from October 31 to November 3, 2023, as part of their first official tour to Africa since Charles ascended the throne in May 2023.
They will tour a new museum dedicated to Kenya's history and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior at Uhuru Gardens, as well as visit the site of the declaration of Kenya's independence in 1963.
They are also scheduled to visit Mombasa County, where they will meet with local leaders and communities and witness some of the development projects supported by the UK.
The visit is expected to strengthen the bilateral ties between Kenya and the UK, as well as celebrate the shared history and culture of the two nations.
On Tuesday, October 24, King Charles III and Queen Carmilla hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Kenya's independence and honor the UK-Kenyan community.
The event was attended by Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Roseline Njogu, Kenya's High Commissioner to the UK Manoah Esipisu, and other leaders.
Their majesties praised the achievements and contributions of the Kenyan diaspora and expressed their admiration for Kenya's culture, diversity, and resilience.
"The King and Queen welcomed members of the UK-Kenyan community to Buckingham Palace ahead of next week's State Visit to the country," the Royal Family posted on X.
