On Monday, September 4, marks the first day of the Africa Climate Summit taking place in Kenya at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Nairobi.
The Summit whose theme is 'driving green growth and climate finance solutions for Africa and the World' was officially opened by President William Ruto.
Ruto personally drove himself from the State House to KICC in an electric car.
Increased exposure to climate change as well as the repercussions globally and specifically in Africa, will be addressed during the Summit.
Security around KICC has been heightened as only those with a Climate Summit budget are being allowed to walk in the area.
Several areas including City Hallway, Wabera Street, Parliament Road, and the Supreme Court will remain sealed off until the end of the Summit which will be September 6.
Heads of State from all over the world started streaming into the country as early as Saturday, for the international event which is the first Climate Summit to be hosted in Kenya.
Over 300,000 delegates and over 25 Heads of State are expected to grace the event and will be received by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua and Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha.
However, a group of activists took to the road to protest non-inclusion in the planning and agenda-setting of the Summit.
The first day of the Summit is branded Ministerial Day, where ministers are more involved in the Summit's activities as heads of state attend to other official responsibilities.
