The national dialogue committee has set a new date for the bipartisan talks to resume on Friday, August 25.
In a meeting on Monday, August 21, the members of the committee postponed the talks in order to give the technical team some time to iron out more issues.
"The two technical teams representing both sides have continued to engage on the issue of framework agreement and framing of issues. We have agreed that we continue with the work and the technical teams will meet from tomorrow to Thursday. The whole committee will reconvene again on Friday at 10 am," said National Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi.
The technical team is supposed to meet for three days from Tuesday before the talks begin to continue working on the framework for the dialogue.
Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wa who is one of the team leaders said that the committee shall begin its 60 days of working once the motion is passed before the senate.
"Senate is on recess and will consider the matter in due course. The 60 days of the functioning of the committee begin after the senate passes the motion," said Ichung'wa.
The National Assembly majority leader Ichung'wa and his counterpart Wandayi had earlier tabled a motion to form the national dialogue committee.
"That the two Houses of Parliament establish a National Dialogue Committee consisting of ten (10) members to represent the Kenya Kwanza Alliance Party, a coalition constituting the Majority Party of the Parliament and Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, a coalition forming the Minority Party of the Parliament." The two leaders said in a joint statement.
Ichung'wa expressed goodwill in the talks assuring the public that the talks will go on despite critics from those who are against such discussions.
"We will work ignoring all other noise from out there."
In the meeting, both the coalition delegation members were present except Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Senate majority leader Aaron Cheruiyot who were out of the country.
