Police Constable David Mayaka who was shot dead in Mihang'o Kayole.

Police say that they have arrested one of the main suspects in the murder of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer David Mayaka.

Mayaka, who was based at Makadara was killed on the night of August 8 at Mihang'o, Kayole by three gunmen who were using a motorcycle.

His wife Hellen Kemunto was also shot during the incident that was captured by a nearby CCTV camera.

According to police, Alex Wanjiru, 23, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon in Kikuyu, where they say he was hiding.

Wanjiru is said to have left Kayole after the incident and went to seek refuge at his grandmother's place in Ruthingiti, Kikuyu, Kiambu County.

The officers also claim that they have since recovered a motorcycle, a Boxer model, which they believe was the one used by the gunmen to commit the crime.

The arrest of Wanjiru brings to six the number of people arrested in connection with the murder.

DCI say that a ballistic analysis of the bullets that felled Mayaka has revealed that the firearm is linked to five other robbery incidents within the city.

Police say that they are looking for two other suspects who they say are armed with one being suspected to have been the one who fire the killer shots that took Mayaka's life.

On the fateful day, Mayaka and his wife had stopped to change a flat tyre when they were accosted by the three men.
