The Government has declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew within Chakama Ranch, Shakahola village in Malindi, Kilifi County for 30 days.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, in a circular dated Wednesday, April 26, stated that the curfew will begin at 6 pm and end at 6 am.
"Curfew orders have also been declared and gazetted within the said area. There shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement either alone or as a group during the period of curfew into and out of Chakama Ranch except as shall be permitted, in writing, by the Kilifi County Police Commander in consultation with the Operation Commander," the CS said.
He at the same time banned public gatherings unless okayed by authorities.
Kindiki has also listed measures taken by his Ministry to secure the forest which has now been listed as a scene of crime and disturbed area.
"The area is an active security operation zone and no access to it by the public shall be permitted effective today, April 26, 2023, except as may be permitted by the operation Commander and/or until these orders are vacated," said Kindiki.
Further, the Government has set up a public information, tracing, and support centre at the entrance to Chakama Ranch at Shakahola Village where members of the public can report any information on missing persons or call the centre helpline 0112 966 857.
On Tuesday, the Interior CS maintained that Pastor Mackenzie will be charged with genocide, terrorism, and radicalisation, among other counts.
Already, authorities have so far rescued 34 people who were carrying out the fast in the forest. The death toll from the massacre has hit 90.
