Newly appointed UK High Commissioner to Kenya, Neil Wigan. [UK Embassy]

Patrick Neil Wigan has been appointed the new British High Commissioner to Kenya.

Wigan, formally the UK Ambassador to Israel replaces Jane Marriott, effective July 2023.

Acknowledging his new assignment, Wigan tweeted on Wednesday, April 19: "My family and I are delighted to be returning to Kenya and a region I know well in July, as I take up the post of UK High Commissioner. It is an exciting time for our partnership, with Kenya playing a vital role in the region."

The outgoing UK's High Commissioner to Kenya Jane Marriott congratulated Wigan, appealing to the Kenyan citizenry to offer her successor their utmost support.

"After four amazing years, my time in Kenya is up in June. I will miss Kenya and Kenyans enormously. Do make sure to follow my successor Neil Wigan, and look out for more soon on what we achieve together," she tweeted.

Marriott who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service in July has been the UK ambassador to Kenya since September 2019.

Her successor, Wigan, a holder of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), was appointed UK's Ambassador to Israel in June 2019, a role he has been serving to date.

He is also a former UK ambassador to Somalia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

He previously worked as the Director for Africa at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).

The incoming diplomat holds a Bachelor's Degree from Oxford University, a Master's in Economics from the University of London, and did his postgraduate studies at the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University.
