A Kenyan woman was arrested in Ghana at the weekend after she was found in possession of cocaine weighing eleven (11) kilograms.

At the time of her arrest, 35-year-old Mary Njeri had just arrived in the West African country on a flight from Nairobi.

A statement from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Ghana said that Njeri was carrying cocaine worth Sh41 million ($ 309,120).

"They arrested a Kenyan national last Saturday, April 15, 2023, for smuggling 11.04 kilograms of cocaine at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) worth $ 309,120," NACOC Director of Public Affairs Francis Opoku said.

"The suspect, Njeri Mary, 35, was apprehended by NACOC officials during routine checks at the arrival hall after disembarking from a South African Airways flight from Nairobi to Accra via Johannesburg," he added.

NACOC said the suspect is being held in prison as investigations into the case are finalized before she can be prosecuted.
