The United States First Lady Jill Biden is currently in a closed door meeting with her Kenyan counterpart Rachel Ruto at State House Nairobi.

This is after Jill landed in the country few minutes at 1630hrs on Friday from Namibia where she delivered a keynote address to students on the role of young people in shaping the future and strengthening democracy.

Jill will be in the country until Sunday Feb 26, 2023. Her trip aims to strengthen the United States' bilateral partnership, and advance shared priorities in the region.

According to her Washington office, Jill's engagements will focus on empowering women and youth, addressing food insecurity, and promoting shared democratic values.

The visit follows the U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit late last year where she hosted a two-day spousal program.

This is Jill's sixth visit to Africa and third to Kenya.

A media dispatch indicate that after the State House meeting, the First Lady and her host will participate in a women's empowerment reception with U.S. Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman.

This event will be pooled press.

She will then have a rest before she engages in an entrepreneurship and sustainability event with a local company connecting tractor owners and farmers to highlight how young entrepreneurs are transforming agricultural practices in Kenya through technology, and improving livelihoods and food security.

"Afterwards, the First Lady will join First Lady Ruto to meet with local women as part of Mrs Ruto's Joyful Women initiative that promotes women's economic empowerment and financial inclusion," read part of the dispatch.

Later in the day, Jill Biden will attend a Shujaaz Konnect Festival, a local youth empowerment event in Nairobi, presented in collaboration with The MTV Staying Alive Foundation and spotlighting the U.S. government's support through the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

On Sunday morning, the First Lady will travel to visit a drought-affected area in Kenya to highlight the impacts of drought on communities before her departure later in the day.
