Azimio leader Raila Odinga has criticized the visit by detectives on Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives on Wednesday evening stormed into the home of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i in Karen. A multi-agency contingent of officers in six vehicles arrived at the Karen home early evening and left.
Odinga who arrived in Karen early evening called out the detectives for acting without court orders.
"We don't know where they got that other order and why they should come in spite of the fact that they did not get an order from the court. Police are operating very much like the Nyayo times. We are seeing a re-invention of Nyayo era. Police acting on impunity," said Odinga.
Odinga came to the defense of former CS Matiang'i.
"I don't think that Fred Matiang'i needs to be treated like a criminal in this country. What is the urgency over this issue? Why should somebody who has been in charge of internal security in a country just six months ago be seen as a very big criminal who should be prosecuted? This is actually persecution," said Odinga.
The former prime minister said he has not been in touch with Matiang'i.
I've not talked to Fred [Matiang'i] but I'm going to try reach him later on after this. But I want him to stand strong. We have seen this thing before, we have travelled this road before," said Odinga.
Earlier on, Milimani Court magistrate Wandia Nyamu declined to issue orders compelling former Interior CS Fred Matiang'I to provide DCI with access to his Karen home CCTV footage.
She instead directed the DCI, which had filed the application, to serve the papers to Bob Morgan Security Services and appear before duty court on March 7, 2023.
