Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua (middle), nominated Sentor Karen Nyamu and Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki (Samidoh).

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has, light-heartedly, asked Mugithi singer Samuel Muchoki better known as Samidoh to take charge of his family matters.

Gachagua's call came a month after nominated senator Karen Nyamu, who was in a controversial relationship with Samidoh, engaged in a confrontation with the musician and his wife, Edday Nderitu, at a Dubai nightclub.

In a light comment today, the Deputy President said it was embarrassing for the trio to engage in an altercation, especially in a foreign country.

"Samidoh, you know how we love you and your songs. Don't take your family affairs abroad. We don't want foreigners to know so much about us," he told a bowed Samidoh.

Gachagua, who was speaking during the burial of Pauline Nyokabi, sister to Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, warned that Samidoh who doubles as an administration police officer, would be punished if he did not put his house in order.

"Wewe Samidoh ni rafiki yangu, na unajua vile tunakupenda na nyimbo zako lakini kuna pahali unatuangusha kidogo. (Samidoh is a good friend of mine and we love his songs but he is causing us embarrassment.)," said the Deputy President.

He added; "Samidoh needs to control his people because as the African proverb says 'an elephant never tires carrying its tusks'."

"We will discipline you. We will not allow you to go overseas or we will limit you to going alone," said Gachagua amid laughter from mourners.

On December 16, 2022, a video of an altercation between Samidoh, his wife Nderitu and Nyamu surfaced online. In the video, the drama began when Nyamu was taken off stage during the artist's live performance.

Shortly after she was taken off stage, the senator went to the reserved lounge, where Samidoh was seated with his wife, Edday Nderitu.

The security personnel attempted to keep her off, but she managed to access Samidoh, and even sat on his laps briefly.

It was then that Samidoh's spouse, Edday, charged at Nyamu, resulting in a confrontation.

The security personnel, however, managed to take Nyamu away, averting would-be uglier scenes.

The first-time lawmaker, who is in the Senate courtesy of a UDA nomination, would later, through her social media pages, say that she was drunk and confessed to partying ways with the musician.

Following the altercation, Nyamu was summoned by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party Disciplinary Committee. She appeared before the committee on January 20, 2023 but was allowed more time to respond to the accusations levelled against her.

The matter will be heard on February 24, 2023.
