The seven nominees to the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) appeared for vetting before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning at Parliament Buildings, Nairobi, Monday.

First to appear before the committee led by Molo MP Kuria Kimani was former Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi, who promised to push for a legal framework to ensure that counties get enough funds for smooth service delivery.

Ms Gedi said her experience in the National Assembly where she served as the Vice Chairperson of the National Security and the Budget appropriation Committee prepared her adequately to serve a member of the commission.

"My first assignment if I am approved to be a member of this commission is to propose for a legal framework for public participation to ensure that counties get the required amount of money to perform their duties and also ensure prudent expenditure of the funds," she said.

Kitui West politician Benedict Mutiso who is a Tax Consultant by profession and previously worked with the Kenya Revenue Authority told the committee he was worth Sh250 million acquired through his business engagements since 2010 with land and buildings forming a huge bulk of his wealth.

He promised to advocate for CRA to consult all stakeholders before coming up with a formula for revenue sharing and advise counties on efficient financial expenditure so as to avoid incurring unnecessary debts.

Dr Jalang'o Midiwo promised to push for training in fiscal management in counties to ensure prudent financial expenditure.

Others nominees who appeared before the committee are Hadija Juma, Dr Isabel Waiyaki, Jonas Kuko, and Koitamet ole Kina.

The committee will retreat to write a report on the suitability of the seven nominees before tabling the same in Parliament for approval during a special sitting on Thursday.
