Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) nominee Ezekiel Machogu says he has a net worth of Sh590 million.
He said his net worth comes from several buildings in Nairobi, Kisii and Mombasa counties.
In Nairobi County, he said he has three commercial properties on Jogoo Road, others in Pangani, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, near Yaya Centre and Ngong Road areas.
He also said that he has 30 acres of land in Kisii County, a quarter acre of land on Ngong Road and another that hosts a car bazaar, and a parcel of land in Shanzu, Mombasa County.
Machogu also revealed on Friday, October 21 that he has top-of-the-range vehicles including a Mercedes Benz and a Toyota Land Cruiser V8.
The CS nominee appeared before the National Assembly's Committee on Appointments chaired by Speaker Moses Wetangula.
On his education plans, Machogu said he hopes to oversee the hiring of 116,000 teachers in two years' time to address the shortage in both primary and secondary schools.
"Starting January 2023, we are targeting to recruit 30,000 teachers soonest possible," he said.
He further said that teachers posted to risky areas will get higher allowances.
Machogu also pledged to weed out cartels at the Education ministry, saying under his leadership "every shilling will be accounted for".
On the CBC implementation, he said he'll fully implement the recommendations of the task force set up by President William Ruto to review the new curriculum.
The CS designate also hopes to increase the number of schools under the schools' feeding programme from the current 4,000 to 8,000.
