President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Tuesday, September 13 between 10am and 2pm inspect his last guard of honour as Head of State as Kenya ushers in William Ruto's reign.
The outgoing president, as per the inauguration schedule, will arrive at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani at 11:45am.
Upon arrival, he will inspect his last guard of honour as the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Visiting presidents, prime ministers, foreign diplomats among other VIPs had settled by 11am.
According to the programme, the Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua will be expected at the venue at 11:30am, and ten minutes later, President-elect William Ruto will make his way to Kasarani Stadium.
President Kenyatta will be the last VIP to arrive at the function.
He'll, thereafter, be received by the Chief of Defence Forces Robert Kibochi. The National Anthem will be played, and the president will, thereafter, proceed to the parade, where he'll inspect his last guard of honour.
A 21-gun salute in honour of the outgoing president will be fired, marking the end of his ten-year leadership as the commander-in-chief.
President Kenyatta's presidential standard (flag) will thereafter be lowered and Ruto's hoisted. Ruto has settled on yellow as the colour of his presidential standard.
Major Kibochi will then hand over to Kenyatta his navy-blue presidential standard.
The Registrar of Judiciary Anne Amadi will thereafter guide Ruto in taking the oath of office as Chief Justice Martha Koome witnesses. Also to take the oath of office around the same time, will be Ruto's deputy Rigathi Gachagua.
Immediate former president, Kenyatta, will thereafter hand over the instruments of power, including the president's sword, to Ruto, the new Head of State.
In his first day as president, Ruto won't, necessarily, inspect the guard of honour, but would give permission to the military parade to leave the venue.
Ruto's deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, will take up emcee duties at the function.
Gachagua will invite visiting dignitaries to make their addresses before Ruto's maiden speech as president.
At the venue, President Kenyatta's image that is usually under display in public buildings, will be removed and replaced with that of Ruto, symbolising a new dawn at the helm of national governance.
At the same time, immediately after Ruto is sworn into office, President Kenyatta's aide de camp will switch positions from standing behind Kenyatta to standing behind Ruto.
When the dignitaries will be leaving the venue, Ruto's vehicle that had only one flag - Kenya's National Flag - during arrival, will have two flags on it - Kenya's flag and his presidential standard.
