Detectives in Kikuyu sub-county, Kiambu have arrested a 15-year-old girl after she allegedly confessed to having murdered her three little siblings and a cousin.
The three died in July, August and September respectively while the cousin died his year, just a few weeks ago.
The suspect, a Form One student, will be arraigned tomorrow on charges of Murder.
According to police reports, the 15-year-old paid her grandparents a visit on August 4, 2022, shortly after schools took a break to pave way for the General Election.
On August 16, police allege something unusual happened. Her 20-month-old cousin disappeared while under her care.
"They searched for him within and outside the compound but they could not find him. His father was informed of the matter and when he arrived home, they decided to open the water well which is in the compound and was securely locked upon checking inside, they found the body which was removed and taken to Kihara Hospital Mortuary," police sources have told The Standard.
Statements recorded by police indicate that the suspected minor went back to her parent's home two days later.
Her parents escorted her back to school on August 19.
On August 20 night, police say, she borrowed a phone from one of her teachers and told her parents that she had killed her aunt's son by drowning him in the well.
Her parents visited her school on August 21, and the Form One student allegedly confessed to her teachers and parents.
"While still at the school with her parents, and in the presence of the teachers she confessed to having killed all her other three siblings," the police report reads in part.
Preliminary investigations by the police have established that on July 14, 2021, the teenage girl allegedly killed her 15-month-old brother.
"He suffocated him with a pillow placed over his face for about 3-4 minutes until she confirmed that he was not breathing and she then covered him with a then covered him with a blanket," the police report says.
Five weeks later, on August 7, 2021, her five-year-old sister was found dead.
"She strangled her with a pillow placed on her face and later confirmed that her heart was not beating by feeling the pulse rate at the wrist,".
Police have also recorded that the juvenile also killed her seven-year-old sister by strangulation. The incident happened on September 25, 2021.
"She strangled her on the neck using her hands for about 10 mins (sic) and drowned her in a basin containing some water in the bathroom before pouring hot water on her face," says the report.
Her statement prompted the parents to report to the DCI-Kikuyu office on Friday, August 26, police say.
A spot-check by KTN News revealed that the family had moved from their home after the death and burial of the three minors.
The four parents whose children have lost their lives recorded statements with the sleuths and investigations began.
George Muriuki, Kikuyu DCIO says the suspect is being held at Kikuyu Police Station pending arraignment.
She will be arraigned at the Kiambu High Court on Monday, August 29 at 8 am.
