Sarah Cheruiyot, the mother of President-elect William Ruto missed the moment to witness as her son received his election certificate from IEBC.
Mama Sarah arrived at Bomas of Kenya which was the national tallying centre a few minutes past 4pm, in the company of close family members.
This was to witness the announcement of the winner of the Tuesday, August 9, presidential election.
After several hours of waiting, a commotion ensued a few minutes after the Commission's chairperson Wafula Chebukati made his way to the main podium ready for the announcement.
Anti-riot police officers swiftly move in as security officers exchanged blows with those who were around the VIP area.
Chebukati, Ruto and the other IEBC officials were whisked to safety as tension escalated in the room.
As a result, Chebukati said his commissioners had been injured in the melee.
As security officers moved to take charge, Mama Sarah in her later seventies was evacuated from the roam to safety.
It is not clear on whether she was evacuated from the Bomas vicinity or taken to the holding area.
There was heavy security deployment at the VIP area before Chebukati announced the winner.
