Deputy President William Ruto says the newly launched Uhuru Gardens Museum was not budgeted for in the previous Financial Year.
His sentiments come a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta launched the refurbished grounds on Monday evening.
The DP claimed that Kenya's economy was performing poorly as a result of implementing unbudgeted projects.
He said over Sh100 billion was spent by the government on unbudgeted projects.
"Uhuru Gardens was not budgeted for in the previous Financial Year. It cost about Sh15 billion. The government spends about Sh100 billion in unbudgeted projects," the DP said during Tuesday's presidential debate at CUEA in Karen, Nairobi.
Ruto said that if elected president in the August 9 polls, he will reduce the government's borrowing and maximise revenue collection.
Moreover, he also disclosed that he had on many occasions asked his boss, President Uhuru to give the public details of all state contracts to no avail.
"I have advised the president on many occasions to publicise state contracts but the buck stops with him," the DP said in a televised debate.
The president has been hailed for renovating the Uhuru Gardens grounds after decades of neglect.
During the launch, Uhuru said the grounds were identified by the founding fathers as a site for independence celebrations.
