Senators have summoned Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’í and Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai over the planned nationwide crackdown on boda boda operators following an attack on a female motorist.

The House wants Dr Matiang’i to spell out the parameters to be used by the law enforces in implementing the declared crackdown.

The lawmakers said the government has to come up with a proper means of eliminating rogue operators without condemning the entire sector.

The House yesterday spent nearly an hour condemning the incident that has triggered public uproar and put the riders on a collision path with law enforcers.

Also summoned by the House are Transport CS James Macharia, top officials at the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) as well as officials of boda boda associations. Session Speaker Judy Pareno ordered Senate’s Security and Transport Committees to convene joint sitting and invite the top government officials in dealing with the mess.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja said the authorities have to spell out the parameters of the crackdown.
