Prisoners are set to receive special tablets to enable them learn with ease.
The project, spearheaded by Mount Kenya University in collaboration with the Kenya Prisons Service, Unesco and the Kenya National Commission for Unesco, will benefit six prisons.
It was launched yesterday and will see the prisoners access special tablets loaded with revision materials.
“The project targets to evaluate effectiveness of ICT in the delivery of education in prisons without the use of Internet,” explained Dr Benson Njoroge, dean at the School of Education at Mount Kenya University.

The prisons targeted are Naivasha Maximum, Kamiti, Kisumu Maximum, Lang’ata women, Shimo La Tewa and Nyeri Maximum prison.
The 24 gadgets, which are CDMA disabled, are loaded with math, biology, chemistry and physics content for offline use.
It also allows virtual laboratories for sciences to ensure that inmates sitting the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams catch up with practical lessons.
Kenya Prisons Commissioner General Wycliffe Ogallo said the service attaches a lot of importance to strengthening rehabilitation and reformation of offenders.
