The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has assured Sosiana High School Principal, Magdalene Njoki Kimani, that the Commission won’t punish her for highlighting the challenges she faced when administering the 2020 KCSE exams.

Njoki had earlier this week, said in an interview with Nation that she covered nearly 20 kilometres on foot daily to deliver KCPE papers to her students in Trans Mara East, Narok County.

A day later, on April 14, Education officials in Trans Mara East denied her claims, saying Njoki only covered a maximum of nine kilometres on foot daily.

An expalantion

The Sub-County Director of Education, Steven Gachie, would later state Njoki was not mandated to speak to the media, and that she owed the ministry and TSC an explanation on why she defied authority.

The TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Nancy Macharia, on Thursday, April 15, however, stated that Njoki won’t be punished for going the extra mile to ensure her students sat for KCPE on time.

“We have no intention to punish any teacher who goes beyond the call of duty to help our learners. You may have read in the newspapers about the incredible teacher in Narok County. We celebrate such teachers, and urge them to keep up with the good job,” said Macharia, who spoke during the release of the 2020 KCPE results at Mtihani House in Nairobi.

Macharia added that “the TSC will reward all teachers who perform well in their duties”.
