NAIROBI, KENYA: Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and his wife were Wednesday dawn attacked and injured by thugs at their Hardy estate, Nairobi.

The two were admitted in hospital for treatment after the attack in which they were robbed of their cash and valuables.

Maanzo had head injuries and was supposed to go for scans at the Nairobi Hospital to establish their seriousness, officials said.

Police said the attack took place at about 3 am as the MP and his family were sleeping.

According to Langata OCPD Titus Yoma, the gang of four first smashed a pane of a kitchen door before they grabbed a house girl who was sleeping there and ordered her to open the other rooms.

Yoma said the gang then proceeded to the other rooms including the MP’s bedroom where they attacked him and his wife robbing them of their valuables and cash.

“We are told the attackers were about four and they were interested in cash and other valuables including mobile phones. The attackers escaped soon after the incident,” said Yoma.

It was then that the MP and his family raised alarm before they were rushed to hospital where they were admitted for normal checks, said Yoma.

Witnesses said the MP had head injuries while his wife had facial and other bodily ones.

Elsewhere, police are investigating two incidents in which two people were Tuesday night shot in gang attacks in Nairobi.

In one incident an employee of Kenya Power was killed in Ngong area by gunmen who escaped without stealing anything from him. The deceased is said to have been lured from a shop by gunmen who seemed to know him before they shot him at close range in the head.

Police said the gang escaped on foot without stealing anything from the deceased and that they are yet to know the motive of the incident.

In Dandora, another man was shot in the mouth by gunmen who escaped without stealing anything from him. Nairobi police boss Benson Kibue said they are looking for the gunmen behind the attacks.
