Barbra Streisand's stepson Spotted going through rubbish bins for food

Singing legend Barbra Streisand is worth $300 million. But her stepson, Jess Brolin, has reportedly been evicted from his Ojai, Calif, apartment and is living on the street, where he was recently spotted rummaging through a trash can for food, reports the Mirror.

Troubled Jess, 41, is the son of actor James Brolin, who is married to singing legend Barbra Streisand. The couple’s estimated wealth is £300million.

But since Jess was evicted from his £500-a-month apartment in May 2011 he has shunned all offers of help from his worried family.

He whiles away his empty days sitting on public benches or hunting for food.

A source close to Jess said: “He will sometimes be sleeping in a field behind shops, basically -wherever he can bed down.

“It can be very cold at night as it’s in the valley.

“Looking at him, you wouldn’t realise he is part of one of the biggest, most successful showbiz families in the world. It is a heartbreaking situation.”

But it is a situation Jess’s wealthy relatives are powerless to change.

He is said to have inherited his six-figure trust fund in 1995 after his mother, Brolin’s first wife Jane Cameron Agee, an animal rights activist, died in a car crash.

But the money apparently ran out and by 2011 Jess could no longer pay his rent. For a while he was sleeping in an old pick-up truck, said friends.

His brother is Oscar-nominated actor Josh Brolin, 46-year-old star of Milk, No Country For Old Men and Labor Day.

A spokesman for the Brolin family said: “We have offered help and support and we continue to do so.

“We love him very much and only want what is best for him.”

Streisand, 72, married Brolin, 74 – best known for his work in US TV shows such as Marcus Welby, M.D. – in 1998 after his divorce from second wife Jan Smithers.
