One person was killed and several people injured on Monday following violence between two communities in Tana River county.
Several houses were burnt down at the outskirts of Madogo trading centre in Tana sub county in suspected land skirmishes between Orma and Munyoyaya pastoral communities.
Reports from the ground indicate that at least 10 people have been taken to Garissa General Hospital with severe wounds.
Several livestock have been missing from one of the community homesteads at Garsoda manyatta since Sunday with fears that some youth are planning a retaliatory attack.
Tana North sub county police commander Patrick Mwangangi said security forces from para military personnel have been dispatched to the area.
However, he declined to disclose more information, saying he is held up in security meetings with county security personnel.
"We are yet to know the real cause of the conflict as elders are giving us different versions of the [cause of the] violence. Please wait for the outcome," he said on the phone.
Hassan Mulisho was buried late in the evening on Monday at Madogo Muslim cemetery after he was killed at his home during a raid.
Tension intensified in parts of Konoramada, Madogo town and Garsoda villages with police continuing to patrol the area.
About 60 houses have been burnt down. No arrests had been made by Monday evening although police intensified patrols.
Tana River county commissioner Mbogai Rioba said more security agencies have been sent to contain the violence.
