A new cancer treatment centre has been set up in Nairobi.
Healthcare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG), India’s largest provider of cancer care, opened the new facility.
The centre is likely to serve the more than 200 cancer patients who travel to India for treatment every month.
HCG has set up the facility in collaboration with Cancer Care Kenya (CCK) and the MP Shah Hospital. Officials said the centre will seek to offer high quality and comprehensive cancer treatment.
BS Ajaikumar, the chairman and CEO, noted HCG is the first Indian private health care organisation to invest in cancer care in African.

More than 40,000 new cancer cases are reported in Kenya every year but due to lack treatment, 20,000 lives are lost every year.
Lack of resources and basic infrastructure also means many cancer patients travel long distances to get treatment.
The preventive measures in the region are inadequate, hence there is insufficient awareness on cancer. “We have now created access to the most comprehensive and dedicated cancer centre in the region.
As specialists in cancer care, HCG stands for accessibility, superior technology, and quality services with measurable outcomes,” said Ajaikumar in Nairobi.
He added: “These partnerships are a major step forward in our mission to make high quality cancer care accessible by all.”
Dinesh Madhavan, the director of the new centre, said the organisation was looking forward to fulfilling the need of high quality services in cancer care.
“We want to ensure patients have a better chance to win over cancer,” Madhavan said.
