Aquariums, or fish tanks as they are sometimes called in the field of aquarists, are great for enhancing the life and beauty of your living environment and infusing exquisiteness to the atmosphere. They add sophistication when set up in a room at home or in the office.

Furthermore, aquariums have been proven to possess therapeutic effects, hence the introduction of therapeutic aquariums into the market, which are aesthetically decorated fish tanks set up with the aim of providing a visually and mentally soothing effect to the observer.

These tanks are different from the normal fish tanks although they both provide relaxation and mental stimulation. Some fish have jerky movements, others glide slowly while some move randomly or in a fleet. Particularly fascinating are bright coloured fish with swaying tail movements. Their motion and colours enchant even infants. Research has shown that executives in high-stress environments find them relaxing.

Aquariums provide a decorative focal point of attention in your room. Coral reef aquarium can quite easily become the best part of your home dÈcor regardless of its size.

A dry coral decoration or motif is also warming, charming and pleasing to the eye despite its stillness as opposed to the soft, spongy, waving look of living coral reefs confined luxuriously behind glass.

Reef aquariums are, in essence, the same as saltwater or tropical fish tanks. Together with fresh water aquariums, these tanks are usually stocked with many colourful and unique-looking tropical fish. Fish-only tanks are commonly available. They do not house invertebrates (fish without bones) nor do they include live rocks (corals).

Saltwater reef wildlife include animals such as hard and soft coral, anemones, starfish, sea urchins, crustaceans such as crab and shrimp, as well as tube worms and molluscs, which are basically clams, snails and even octopuses. All these are among the most popular species to use for a tropical reef aquarium. Reef aquariums are best built on walls or on the floor, although they can also be built over glass.

In essence, the focus of an aquarium is to sustain the health and beauty of both fish and the alluring underwater plant life. Aquariums also serve as indoor aquatic gardens, which are a living work of art.
